There is something about Komodo that is rather unearthly; this group of islands with savannah landscape, resembling a wilderness that seems to belong to another place and time. Beneath Komodo lie some of the last pristine coral reefs, which are the richest on the planet. The islands are the habitat of the Komodo Dragons – the largest lizard in the world (up to 4 m long). In 1991, Komodo National Park was inscribed on the World Heritage List. The best place for macro and wide angle. What to see: Groups of spotted sweetlips in large numbers, orange, blue, yellow and white frogfish, ghost pipefish, multicolored nudibranchs, feather stars, porcelain crabs, transparent shrimps, tunicates, soft corals, anemones and sponges are very common. Best time to go: April – August
